Whether you are looking for a way to express your creativity, a relaxing passtime and opportunity to make functional or sculptural objects for your home or to give as gifts, come and join us! We also cater to anyone looking for professional development, experienced workers in the art and design industry wanting to explore clay as a medium and experienced ceramic artists.
You will learn in a friendly and professional environment, in a beautiful secluded ground floor garden pottery and art studio, right in the heart of Shepherd’s Bush in West London. The teachers at Kite Studios are highly experienced and passionate, will guide you through the processes and be on hand at all times to answer questions.
This course offers a flexible approach which allows the teachers to respond to the requirements and enthusiasm of learners who may want to explore a variety of specialist techniques. At the same time we offer a structured curriculum for those with no previous experience to make sure a good foundation is set for the technical and aesthetic aspects of working with clay as a creative medium.
The Thursday morning Adult Pottery Studio course covers hand building techniques and working on the potter’s wheel. Techniques include throwing, turning, slab building, pinching, coiling and press moulding. We will also explore a variety of decorating techniques which include working with slips and glazes; including sgraffito, inlay, stamping, mono printing, slip trailing, wax resist and glazing.
Flexible course format
For beginners, the course will lead you through a progression of short projects, each of which will introduce you to basic hand building and throwing techniques, culminating in the opportunity to complete an independent project. The techniques covered will be built upon week by week, with the aim of giving you the skill set necessary to confidently create work in clay and to give expression to your ideas. You are also welcome to propose short projects which are of interest to you. This is a very flexible class format and we are happy to accommodate you.
Experienced learners joining the course are welcome to work on individual projects from the beginning and we are happy to support you in discovering and exploring new materials as well as developing and perfecting techniques to realise your projects.
Practicing the art of pottery is a wonderful way to unwind, supporting your wellbeing, while also learning a new skill and giving expression to your creativity. The two and a half hour class duration allows you time to relax and get into the flow of working creatively.
Flexible attendance options
We have excellent public transport links and all courses offer flexible attendance options for anyone with busy career schedules, shift work or childcare needs. If you miss a class one week you are welcome to make it up by attending a class in another one of our Adult Pottery Studio courses.
